Grandpa Jones' Sloppy Joe

I know every family probably has their own easy sloppy joe recipe that they swear is the easiest or best tasting sloppy joe recipe in the world. But they're wrong, that recipe belongs to my family 😉  But y'all are in luck because I'm sharing our (slightly altered- it IS a family recipe) sloppy joe recipe created by my Grandpa. My Grandpa was a butcher back in the day and my mom always tells me how wonderfully he prepared the meat for their dinner- although it was often super spicy and she wasn't too happy with that 😆 This recipe isn't spicy at all though. It's delicious, super simple, and a quick warm meal to throw together on these literally negative temperature days we've been having.

Ingredients: 1 cup ketchup, 1 cup water, 2 tb worcestershire sauce, 2 tb lemon juice, 2 tb vinegar, 1 tb Jack Daniel's whole grain mustard, 3 tb brown sugar, 1 lb ground beef, 1/2 chopped onion

In a medium bowl combine everything apart from the ground beef and chopped onion and set aside. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet until almost completely cooked through. If you completely cook the ground beef in the first step you may end up over-cooking it in the following step, depending on how you prefer your onion. Add the onion to the skillet and cook until soft (or slightly browned, I need THOROUGHLY cooked onions lol). When the onions are how you like them, add the mixture you set aside earlier. Mix and leave to simmer for around 25-30 minutes- just until the sloppy joe thickens because it will begin with a LOT of liquid. After it thickens you're all done! It should serve around four or five people.

This sloppy joe is super flavorful and quick. Next time you need a quick sure-fire recipe whip this up and let me know how it goes!
