Our First Time Trying Hello Fresh!

Hello! For me, this is long-awaited! It was (almost) like Christmas morning when the Hello Fresh box was dropped off. I chose 3 recipes out of around 20 options for Matthew and I to cook this week and they all sounded so delicious! Something I was appreciative of was that there was vegetarian as well as meat-eating dishes available to choose from. While I won't be needing the meat-free options, I have many vegan and vegetarian friends who I know would utilize that!

I don't want to ramble on forever though, I want to show you the meals!!

Chicken Cheddar Fajitas

Each recipe comes with a recipe card that lists everything you will need (obvious things such as cooking utensils and common household items like olive oil are not included in the box unless it is a key ingredient- so they let you know how to prepare). They have prep time and total time listed so you know which recipes would be best for which days! The chicken fajita recipe took no time at all! It's basically chop the ingredients and put in a pan with their special seasoning and throw into baked tortillas. I LOVED the simplicity of this recipe and as I was looking at the other two recipe cards I think they'll be pretty simple, too! I won't take you step by step through these recipes, I really just wanted to show you what a Hello Fresh meal looks like!

Perfectly portioned produce! (Say that five times fast.....mom jokes). The produce was surprisingly fresh. Like possibly actually more fresh than if I went and grabbed them from the grocery store tonight. I don't know how they do it, but I might have audibly gasped when I opened our box 😉

The seasoning you see on top of the veggies here reeeeally made the fajitas. It's their special seasoning blend that did not include the ingredients on the package (ambiguous enough to not be able to make it myself). So while I'll keep the recipe card and make this again sometime for sure, it just won't quite be the same without that secret sauce!

Hot Honey Barbeque Chicken Legs

Before I begin this recipe, my camera was dead the day I made this meal. Enjoy these professional iPhone photos 😆

Again, so delicious. This recipe actually challenged my cooking skills ever so slightly! The recipe said to broil on high which left me to figure out 1. What the heck broil meant, 2. Where on my stove it was located, 3. How to get it to work. Luckily, it was actually the easiest, most quick thing in the world and now I'm embarrassed for not knowing!

I didn't take a photo of the special sauces that came with to brush on the chicken, but I wish I did! They were great! It came with plenty of barbeque sauce and a spicy honey sauce that you were supposed to mix into the barbeque a little at a time to make it as spicy as you'd like. Matthew and I used the entire spicy honey package, it was so good! This week one of the things I realized I love about Hello Fresh is the fresh herbs that come with! If I were to have seen this recipe online (first of all, I would have skipped broiling and hoped for the best, but also) I would have used dried cilantro that we already have, instead of picking up fresh cilantro. But fresh is always so much better, and this cilantro was no exception.

Side note: the veggies look very basic, but they've been charred and spiced and they were amaaaaazing.

Italian Noodle Soup

Yum! Much like with the last recipe, I learned a lesson this day. Don't put the bags that the ingredients come in in the freezer; only put the meats in the freezer! This might be an obvious thing to most people, but I thought the smartest thing to do with a bag of ingredients I won't use for a few days is to stick it in the freezer. Wrong! The bag with these ingredients was sitting in the refrigerator thawing for a whole 24 hours, and the produce inside got really squishy and gross during that process 😕 Luckily we had everything we needed already except for the tomato, which has been excluded. But all the spices, the ciabatta and butter spread, the chicken stock, and a few other things reaaally made this soup amazing. I am so happy with this meal! I had a (very large) bowl and Matthew had two and there is still left-overs for one more bowl tomorrow (dibs, Matthew)!

Their pre-mixed chicken sausage is amazing!

Overall, I'm really happy with Hello Fresh and I can't wait for next time 😛 If you want to try Hello Fresh and receive a special discount or promotion message me your email on Instagram! (elizabetht.taylor)
