Quick DIY Blemish Fix

Hi all! On my Instagram stories (@elizabetht.taylor) I asked what you'd like to see on the blog this evening, and a blemish solution was your response! This is an at-home remedy that you should have all the ingredients for in your kitchen! While this works very well for me, it's important to note that not all skin is the same and it may not work as well for you. But it's always worth the try!

It can be so frustrating to wake up with a brand new friend on your face. Especially when they're tender, swollen, and bright red. Like Rudolph, or something. If you don't have time in the morning to do this entire treatment, holding an ice cube on the pimple should reduce its swelling and some redness. If you do have a few minutes, try this quick solution.

You should first exfoliate to remove dead skin cells. My favorite exfoliant is No7 Radiant Results Revitalising Daily Face Polish (what a name), but I'm currently using St. Ives Radiant Skin. After exfoliating, rinse with warm water. Now you should prepare the blemish paste!

Mix 1/4 tsp baking soda in a small dish with a few drops of lemon juice. I used a q-tip to mix this paste- you'll need a q-tip anyway to apply. If you know that your skin is more sensitive, consider adding a few drops of water as well. My skin is not sensitive at all, but I add in some water just to be on the safe side! Both of these ingredients are powerful, and the last thing you want to do is irritate any blemishes and make them worse.

Use the q-tip to apply approximately a pea-sized amount of the paste directly onto your blemish/es. Or, if you've got lots of small blemishes or blackheads, apply to the entire face as a mask. Let it sit for around 15 minutes (just let it dry, really) and when you're ready wipe it away with a warm, wet cloth. Finish off by lightly rubbing an ice cube on your face. This will help reduce your pore size (especially since they've been opened up considerably during this process) and also help fight against excess oils. If your skin is very dry during these winter months, wait until your skin completely dries from this blemish fix process, then add an oil-free moisturizer such as BareMinerals True Oasis Oil-Free Replenishing Gel Cream. This should help with moisture but not build up oils to cause more breakouts!

Like I said earlier, while this has worked very well for me on many occasions, everyone's skin is different. I hope this works just as well for all of you!! Thank you for reading!
