Iced Matcha Latte Recipe

I have a super quick post today about matcha because every time I bring it up, nobody seems to know what it is! Let's start there. Matcha is finely ground tea leaves, basically. The green tea plant (camellia sinensis) is grown in shade which makes it produce more caffeine, which is why a lot of people, including myself, are switching their regular coffee drinking habits with matcha! My main reason is because matcha won't stain your teeth, and with the amount of coffee I was drinking, this was beginning to be an issue. But I don't ONLY drink matcha because it doesn't stain my teeth, I happen to love the way it gives me energy. That's confusing, I know. But when I drink coffee I get a jolt of energy and it lasts for a few hours. With matcha, I get a slow release of the same amount of energy without the "jolt" or any jitters, no matter how many cups of matcha I consume. This is because it has the amino acid called "L-theanine" which basically relaxes you. So part of the matcha is giving you a nice, calm state (bodily- no jitters) and another is giving you a great amount of energy (mind). Here is a website with lots of health benefits! You guys, you can't beat this. So let's get to how I prepare it!

During the spring and summer months (and really the whole year) I prefer iced drinks, so I begin by filling about half of this mason jar with ice. Around 1 cup of ice cubes. I begin with a mason jar because I don't have a fancy frother, so I add all of the ingredients in here and just shake it up. After the ice, I pour in about 1 1/2 cups of original and unsweetened almond milk. Then a good splash of vanilla flavor.

When it comes to the matcha I use a VERY small amount and find the flavor is still amazing. Most recipes call for 1/2 tsp but that's still too much for me. I cut it down to half that- 1/4 tsp. Seems like suuuuch a small amount, but for this amount of almond milk and vanilla, it's a perfect balance! I get my matcha from Dillons, currently. It was so hard for me to find! I do love the flavor of the brand that I have, but it seemed to be a little expensive. I found this brand on Amazon, and will go for that when this little jar runs out.

When all of the ingredients have been added, just shake for maybe 20 seconds! You'll be able to tell when it's completely mixed because there won't be little dark green specs floating around and there should be some green foam on the top.

This time I transferred mine to this clear mug, because aesthetic, of course. But somedays I simply put in a reusable straw and call it good with the mason jar!

I hope you guys love this drink! If you need it a little sweeter consider adding a little bit of honey to the mason jar or a few drops of stevia sweetener. Thank you so much for reading!
