Road Trip Necessities

Hi all! As you know, Matthew and I just returned from a looong road trip, and I found there were some things I was super glad I ended up packing! I struggle a little finding a balance between traveling comfortably and overloading πŸ˜‚ This time I think I actually did a really good job of having all of the things I needed to be comfortable and not wanting for anything and my luggage didn't weigh the car down too much πŸ˜‰ So I thought I'd share a few little things you might not even give a second thought about while packing for a road trip, but you WILL appreciate having when the time comes!

Not joking! People always say they leave their "good" things at home when they travel...but why?? Life's too short, wear the beautiful expensive things, eat the carbs, and bring your very favorite jammies on vacation with you. When I'm away from home I need all the comforts that I usually would have with me in order to feel secure. I'm not sure why that is, but I've always been this way. Bringing my favorite pajamas to cozy up with after a long day (or two) of traveling is the best feeling ever. My favorite are from Nordstrom and they're by Ugg. Highly recommend!

When I was pregnant, I read that using a sleep mask actually does improve your sleep. So I picked one up and haven't slept without it since! I got a really cute white fuzzy one from Target, but I couldn't find it on their site anymore. I linked the best pillowcase/sleep mask/scrunchie brand in the whole world instead, that ought to do the trick πŸ˜‰ If you MUST have a fuzzy one as well, I found one on Etsy!

Again, everyone says they leave these at home. How do you walk around your hotel without slippers?? And if I'm being honest, on our recent trip to Colorado I wore my slippers literally everywhere. I would just jump out of my slippers when I needed actual shoes for something! Like I said, I need all the comforts of home πŸ˜‚

In our case, only one of our charging cords that we could use in the car was working, so a battery case really would have come in handy. My little brother has told me to get a charging case for like two years now so if he reads this I'll probably get an "I told you so" text....LOL. Another handy thing to have when you're traveling is a charging cord of an extended length. You never know where outlets will be in your hotel room or Airbnb, so these really do help out! You can find great options on Amazon! Remember to use smile.amazon.com to donate a portion of your sales to charity!

Technically this lip balm is an "overnight lip mask", but I use it just as you'd use a lip balm! I've never used a better lip product...ever. I have perpetually dry lips and I'm always trying new lip products, so I'm actually quite the expert in this area. Trust me on this one! Keep your Laneige right in your purse at all times. The traveling tends to dry my skin out so badly and this includes my lips. When I apply this a few times a day, I don't even notice the effects of traveling on my lips.

Honestly, before I met Matthew I never used gum. I didn't know what I was missing! I'm not being dramatic. Especially on super long car rides/plane rides, having gum at the ready not only makes you the coolest person in the car/plane but ALSO you can feel as if you've just brushed your teeth after hour nine in a car. It's life changing. Bring. Gum. My favorite is Simply Gum, so that's what I have linked!

Is it really just me, or does traveling seriously dry the skin out? Does anyone know why this happens?? It drives me insane. But this time I was prepared because when I went to Colorado in November my skin was so dry that it cracked. I'm so serious! Around my eyes and corners of my lips were red and raw and it was so sad. So this time I packed in the moisture with the Laneige lip mask and the LancΓ΄me Rose Jelly Mask. Literally about half way to Ridgway I already noticed my skin feeling dry and yucky, so that night I used my hydrating mask and the next morning (my bestie's wedding day!) my skin was brand new! And thank goodness, because makeup looks terrible on dried out skin and I was so worried I'd look all cake-y in her wedding photos! This is also a great product to have during this season transition as your skin adjusts.

This one is specific to long road trips. Just like chewing a piece of gum can help it feel like you've recently brushed your teeth and refresh you a little, reapplying deodorant (whether or not you need to) can refresh you as well! I'd suggest getting a really high quality deodorant like Elizabeth Arden White Tea Deodorant. The smell is more like a light perfume and is subtle
enough for the other passengers to enjoy and not give them headaches. I promise you'll appreciate having a really nice deodorant when the time comes!

I'm obsessed with my Swell water bottle! It kept my water cold for our entire 13 hour car ride. Unbelievable! Matthew and I are consistently drinking water all day, this is something he taught me. It's amazing how different I feel now when I do poorly drinking my water throughout the day! I have less energy, I don't sleep as well, I'm more hungry, and really the list goes on and on. I have a workout water bottle, a water bottle for my morning lemon water, and my Swell bottle for the rest of the day that I take with me anywhere I go. Something I can't stand is when I see someone that keeps their refrigerator stocked with plastic bottles at all times. I would probably drink five in a day- and that's just me...ONE person. Could you imagine an entire family reaching for a plastic bottle multiple times per day?? No wonder the Earth is deteriorating before our eyes!! Okay, rant over. The point of this is that having a high-quality reusable water bottle is convenient and environmentally conscious πŸ˜‚ I'm done. (Also, if you have a reusable Starbucks cup you get a discount at all Starbucks locations so I brought one of those with too. We got coffee 2-3 times each way so it pays off. Okay now I'm done.)

Another couple of things I found useful on this trip that I forgot to add to the graphic, was Yes To detoxifying zit zapping dots and the Kindle app for iPad. Skin goes crazy while you're traveling and I did notice some acne appear. Make sure to follow the directions on the zit zapping dots package well, or they won't work. Most of the negative reviews on this products (they DO work!) are because those people clearly did not read the instructions. And lastly, I bring my iPad everywhere because I read books from it and I'll never pass up an opportunity to stop for a second and read! I use the Kindle app because I love how I can easily purchase any book from Amazon and it immediately downloads in my app!

Thank you so much for reading!! If you're like me and you love the comforts of home wherever you go, consider bringing these things or similar items with you when you travel. It makes a world of a difference!
