Adding A Lip Exfoliant To Your Skincare Routine

Hi all! I asked in Instagram stories if you used a lip scrub or a lip exfoliant during your skincare routine and SO MANY PEOPLE said they didn't! I'll be honest, I didn't consistently use a lip scrub until about a month ago, but there's no way I could go back now. I'm currently using Lush Cosmetic's Bubblegum lip scrub every morning. It's exfoliating, nourishing, and even moisturizing. I used to have a really hard time wearing certain lip colors- mostly matte and some buttery formulas- because my lips would look cracked and truly it just looked unhealthy! Since I've been using Lush's lip scrub, I can wear any color I want and it glides on sooooo smoothly! I also feel like my lips absorb my lip balms much better now, too.

I thought I should share some other reasons to use an exfoliant on your lips apart from my own experience, and with a quick Google search I had LOTS of things pop up immediately. First thing's first- do not use a regular exfoliant or scrub on your lips. It should specifically be made for your lips! Now that that's out of the way, let's dive in.

1. The top layer of your lips usually contains mostly dead skin. Especially if you don't frequently exfoliate them. 2. I noticed that products apply better to my lips now that I'm using a scrub, but apparently they also wear longer on your lips if they're properly exfoliated! 3. Not only will your lip balms apply better, and your lips absorb the moisture quicker, your lips will also retain that moisture longer if they're exfoliated. 4. The dead skin on your lips actually conceals the color of your lips and makes them look differently. Therefore, using a scrub will reveal your lip's beautiful natural color!

With all of this information, if you're like me, you'll want to know where to pick up a lip scrub ASAP! Luck you, I've got recommendations!

2. MAC Lip Scrubtious, $17.50
