My Tips for Keeping Your Hair Healthy + Review on 2 Hair Products

Hey there! Hair maintenance can be so annoying if I'm being honest. Sometimes you get into a great routine that slowly stops working or your lifestyle will change so you need something new but I have a few great products that have worked with me through travel and long days and any other stresses I have thrown at the health of my hair! My hair problems tend to be excess oil, brassy color from getting it dyed, and dryness and breaking in my ends from styling. A lot of people my age (just starting their new jobs) are beginning to run into the frayed or breakage issue as a result of having to style their hair Monday-Friday for the first time ever and aren't sure how to look presentable without ruining their hair! There are tons of cute heatless styles out there, but this post is about the opposite side of this- products that help with protecting and repairing! The last issue I have that just popped into my head is the thickness of my hair. I used to have very thick, luxurious hair (baby come back) but these days my hair tends to be limp and thin. I have been using a product that has seriously turned this around and it's super affordable!

This is what I'm talking about!! Dove Nourishing Secrets Thickening Rituals Shampoo has changed the game- seriously! I picked it up because 1. it smelled good, haha and 2. I thought it might help ever so slightly for a good price! I was wrong in the best way possible! After maybe three uses my hair was unbelievably thick- I am not exaggerating. I styled my hair the same way that I do daily and it looked sooo different (more voluminous) and took way longer than usual and I couldn't figure it out until the next time I went to wash my hair and I realized it was the shampoo. I wash my har on Wednesdays and a weekend day (whichever day makes most sense with our schedule) so washing my hair three times took over a week. So give this product 1.5-2.5 weeks depending on your hair to see a difference. I found mine at Target and that's also where it's linked to twice above. I also have to mention that this is the best most clean smelling shampoo I've used in a while! You know how sometimes brands try too hard or focus too hard on the scent of their product? And it's super overwhelming making it feel like your hair is just being loaded with scent and not getting clean? That's literally the worst but Dove does such an amazing job of producing amazing/nostalgic scents that make you hair feel soooo clean. It's just one of the many reasons I love this product.

This is the second new product I've been using. I've used so many purple shampoos- super pricy to suspiciously cheap- over the many years that I've been dying my hair and this one is my absolute favorite. It's also a very affordable product and can be found at Ulta or Target (probably other places but those are where I've seen it) Nexxus Blonde Assure shampoo smells amazing and works so well especially for the price! Some blonde shampoos that I've used will fix the brassiness in my hair for a short while but my hair will drastically need shampooed again in a few days to a week but with Nexxus I feel like the tone lasts through the next wash if that makes sense. So the next time I go to wash my hair it isn't fixing the color but just doing maintenance. That has to be my favorite thing about this! Okay now for the little extras that keep my hair healthy!

Okay first is the conditioner I've been using forever because the tiniest bit goes a very long way. I found it at Ulta (can you tell I shop at Ulta for literally everything?) for an amazing price and it's linked above. I wrote a short review on it here, but basically the info I want to include here is that its a detoxifying shampoo so give your hair a week or two to get used to it! The heat protectant I use is the same brand as the conditioner- clearly they're doing something right! Not Your Mother's Beat the Heat has consistently not only protected my hair from heat tools but it also helps the style hold all day- and into the next day! From, you guessed it, Ulta. 😅 The other products are used much more infrequently. These are a Moroccan oil and a conditioning treatment. I use these once/week (sometimes two times a week) after I shower. I first rub in a pea sized amount of oil through the ends and then a slightly larger amount of the conditioning treatment over the whole head (but not the roots).  The next morning my hair is brand new, shiny, thicker (probably due to the Dove shampoo though lol) and all around just so much better. I'm positive that if I didn't do these few extra steps a few times per week my hair would be damaged beyond repair! So don't wait until your hair gets to that point- utilize some of these tips now!
