Socially Distanced Halloween Plans

Halloween this year is going to be tough. On my neighborhood app the only thing everyone is talking about is which homes will allow visitors and which aren't, how we're going to provide a fun Halloween for all the kids while keeping them safe, and there's a general sense of sadness that we don't have our usual antics going on. For us it isn't too bad, because Theodore's really too young to understand how Halloween should go, but I'd still like for him to be able to celebrate. On Instagram today I partnered with Emily of @emilys_eye_view to share our suggestions for a safe Halloween and it was so much fun!

My family is whipping up some fun treats and simply leaving them on our neighbors doorsteps. Theodore wants to be a dinosaur for Halloween, so this will be his opportunity to dress up and roar at as many people as possible.

If you want to make your krispies homemade, the best simple recipe is 6 tbsp butter, 2 cups of mini marshmallows, approximately 3/4 box of rice krispy cereal.

1. Melt the butter on low heat.
2. Pour in the mini marshmallows and melt those as well on low-medium heat, stirring constantly.
3. Mix in as much rice krispy cereal as you can. Usually about 3/4 of the box.
4. Press into a baking pan gently. The harder you pack them in, the tougher the bar will be. Let them cool for around an hour, then cut into bars.

I'll be honest, I skipped steps 1-4 and purchased pre-made treats! But they would have been so much more delicious had I personally made them.

The next step is to place your treats on a wire rack over your sink (for easier clean up) and press mini chocolate chips on the top half to resemble eyes. Then melt white melting chocolate by putting them in a bowl over boiling water and stirring frequently. When they're completely melted, pour into a zip-lock bag and snip the corner off of the bag.

Drizzle the chocolate over your treats horizontally and a few drizzles at an angle to resemble a wrapped up mummy!

Set these in the refrigerator again for about one hour so the chocolate hardens enough to be placed in a plastic bag.

I picked up little treat bags from Target and velvet ribbon from Hobby Lobby to put my Halloween treats together. A velvet ribbon makes anything better in my opinion!

I would love to hear how you plan on spending Halloween, leave me a comment! Thank you for reading!
