Healthy Travel Snacking

My family is on beautiful Hilton Head Island for the week. Prior to having a child I never really worried about packing snacks for travel to be honest! I knew I could stop wherever I needed along the way should I get hungry. Most times though, we would just power through and arrive starving! With Theodore I have been the opposite (and because I'm expecting number two...I always seem hungry) and I made sure to pack ample snacks. We do a pretty good job as a family of eating whole, healthy foods on a regular basis. I don't want to give Theodore the impression that traveling should completely change the way you fuel your body. If anything, since you'll be extra tired and have extra movement, we should be eating healthier. (Not that we do😅 ) Any "fun" foods that I'd like to consume while traveling I believe it makes the most sense to save for our actual destination! (Teddy's Papa and Deema are here with us...trust me when I say he's getting plenty of fun foods!)

On the way we had a nice long drive to a hotel and we caught a plane the following morning. We left home as soon as Matthew was off of work between 4-5pm so we were on the road through dinner. I wanted to be sure whatever I packed Theodore would actually enjoy eating, but also that it would fill and fuel him (and us). Below is what I put together!

On the way to the hotel we all ate our hummus, carrots, Target brand Larabars, and cheese squares and I packaged it all in a large lunch tote with ice packs. If you or someone you travel with have a granola allergy, these bars from Target are a great option! Granola bars tend to be the easiest option for a healthy travel snack if you find the right one, but sometimes getting over the granola allergy hurdle can be frustrating. Everything has granola/oats in it! These bars from Target are actually called "date and nut" bars and they have only around 5-6 ingredients. I got the apple flavor, but I can't find them online. So for an example of ingredients I'll use the blueberry muffin flavor! The listed ingredients are: dates, cashews, dried blueberries, blueberries, sunflower oil, dried apple pieces, vanilla extract. So simple! They are toddler approved, too!

I also poured some Skinnypop Original popcorn into serving sized bags. Popcorn isn't going to fill you or nurture you like a good snack would, but how could you travel without it?? The bananas were saved for the following morning because we weren't sure how long it would be before we could eat breakfast. We had to be up very early to make our flight and wanted to be sure we had something nutritious, quick, and filling immediately in our bellies before leaving!

Other great options for travel are:

Serving Size Hummus and Pretzels (a Teddy fave 😘)
