What We've Planted for Our Fall Garden

Okay, make no mistake, I know I should've planted this garden an entire month ago. I never claimed to be good at gardening, I just like it! I wanted to share what we've got planted to hopefully bloom this fall because I'm so excited about what we've got growing.

This year I'm experimenting with what we can grow right here in our yard to hopefully launch a floral delivery service in Manhattan next year! I'd also love to set up at the farmer's market each weekend, but we'll just have to see what amounts our little yard can hold without being overrun.

For our fall garden, we've just got this little box garden pictured above. I really measured out each flower to fit in this box like a puzzle. This garden was built here prior to us purchasing the house. Last year I attempted to make it into a vegetable garden, but like I said, I'm not actually very good at gardening 😂 and nothing grew. So we'll see how these flowers do here!

I tilled up the soil really nicely and mixed in an all-purpose fertilizer before getting started.

For my summer garden, I ordered seeds from Floret, Renee's, and a few from Amazon. Most of them are sprouting by now, some are almost 4 inches high, but nothing blooming. Another garden I should've started earlier and I made sure to set a task that will alert me earlier next year! But for this fall garden, I just visited Menards and chose what I thought were the most beautiful! I'll compare the growth between the "higher quality" seeds and these.

I'll be honest, I didn't look at planting times OR sun/shade requirements when I chose these seeds. I've done enough gardening to know that I could never screw up a zinnia or sunflower, but the delphiniums I'm specifically thinking will absolutely not grow. Fingers crossed! The links I provided above are as close to what I purchased as possible, and if you choose to purchase from those links I will get a small commission.

Something I learned from beginning my summer garden is that I easily forget where exactly I have planted each flower. So I came up with a very rudimentary way of keeping track.

These are basic, wooden, craft/popsicle sticks that I have penned each flower's name on. I suggest you do not use sharpie as it tends to spread on wood and the names would not be easily legible. Water may also ruin that? I've found the pen holds up pretty well as well as these sticks. Mud does easily splash and stain the sticks but I hasn't hindered my ability to easily read the flower name yet!

These are what I'm most excited about!! ^

I'll keep you posted as the garden grows and if I have any crazy revelations in the process!
